Chin Augmentation

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Marin County and Berkeley

People perceive those with balanced facial proportions as more attractive. If your chin is disproportionately small or recessive, this may cause your entire face to appear less symmetrical. Dr. Kyle Belek can improve your overall facial appearance with a chin augmentation procedure, which is the best way to bring a sense of balance to one’s features.

What is Chin Augmentation?

Depending on your desired results, rhinoplasty may be recommended in conjunction with chin augmentation in order to achieve the most balanced facial silhouette.

Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty or genioplasty, is a surgical procedure that either reduces or adds material to the chin. The most common type of chin augmentation involves either implementing a solid silicone implant over the jawbone, or by surgically reducing the size and shape of the chin bone.

Chin augmentation is typically performed under anesthesia, in an outpatient facility. The procedure typically takes between 1-3 hours. You will be advised to avoid chewing for a few days following the procedure, and it’s recommended to adhere to a liquid or soft food diet during this time. Patients sometimes experience a “tight” sensation around the jaw, which is normal, and usually subsides within the first week after chin augmentation. You may resume normal activity after about 10 days, and should not experience any swelling after 6 weeks.
