Aging and environmental factors can take a dramatic toll on your skin. Crow’s feet, deep smile lines and wrinkles can begin forming as early as age 18. For many of our clients, cosmetic fillers such as Botox, Juvederm and Restylane provide an option for smoother, younger looking skin. Cosmetic fillers are an FDA-approved prescription medicine and are gradually absorbed safely by the body. Most patients opt for follow-up treatments every 6 to 12 months to restore the appearance of smoother skin.
How Botox and Cosmetic Fillers Work
Botox and cosmetic fillers are typically injected into facial muscles. The fillers then block signals from the nerves to the muscles, which causes the wrinkle-causing muscles to relax. This process can dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead.
In addition to the cosmetic benefits of Botox, doctors have found a number of medical applications for the medicine. Botox has been successful in decreasing migraines, inhibiting sweat production, and even as a treatment for arthritis pain.
The Cosmetic filler process
During your initial consultation with Dr. Belek, you will discuss your options and determine if cosmetic fillers are right for you. It is important to maintain a positive outlook, with realistic expectations.
Before your scheduled procedure, you will be advised to avoid alcohol for a minimum of one week prior to your appointment date. You will also need to cease the use of anti-inflammatory medication for up to two weeks, to reducing potential bruising from the treatment.
The cosmetic filler process will only take a few minutes to perform, and no anesthesia will be required. The filler will be injected into specific muscles that are producing wrinkles using a narrow gauge syringe.
After your procedure has been completed, you will be advised to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for a minimum of 12 hours after the treatment. It will also be recommended that you should not lie down for up to 3 to 4 hours after the procedure to keep the filler from moving into an unintended area.
Before & After Photos
While you will begin to see results immediately following the treatment, the full effects may take between 3 and 7 days to become fully visible. Side effects of cosmetic fillers are rare, but may include bruising, numbness or swelling. These side effects are usually minor and typically subside within a few days.
